I have been in Cadets for almost years. I started out in Navy league which is age range is 9-12. Once I aged out I joined Sea Cadets into the corp RCSCC Calgary. I am currently on my third year and have ranked up to a master seaman. I joined cadets because of family influence, and I didn't want to be in it at first but have since learned to love it. It has given me a multitude of opportunitys such as being able to go to summer camp where I learned leadership skills and nautical skills such as sailing etc.. Over the years cadets has become a major factor in who I am today
Summer Camps
Currently I have only been to a cadet summer camp twice. Both being at HMCS Quadra. The first time I was there for general training where we basically get a taste of all the different strains of the training they offer there such as seamanship, sailing, drill and ceremonial and ships boat operator. I was focused more on the seamanship side of things. The second time I went to camp I was enrolled in basic seamanship. During this time we learned many new skills sucha as tieing knots operating a whaler (motorized sail boat) and went on a day sail on a orca( A big military ship). I cadets I have been praised for my leadership skills specifically being able to take charge over a group when needed and offer my opinions. I was even nominated as cadet of the intake. Which is just a title present to one cadet out of 2 divisions with only 1 cadet nominated from each division. Unforunetly I was only nominated. My hopes for next year are that I get Ships boat opereator so I can get my boating licsence.
